| why do people tend to be so against a show not having a plot? is it that people don't like randomness? is it that people feel its harder to connect to the characters? is it that people just like everything to be in order? i know theres excpetions..... but i feel as though the ONLY plotless shows that have good ratings are the ones that are really funny like Sabagebu! or One Punch Man or extremely deep please, your thoughts..... my comrades ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) |

| I really don't care about the plot lol as long as it's entertaining, it doesn't matter if it's bad or a masterpiece. If it's not entertaining me, then for ME, it's shit. I think it's because when a story doesn't have a ending goal or no one knows where it is going, it's hard to get invested? I don't have problems with randomness so I can't really provide a good answer. ;-; |

| I don't mind- I've enjoyed 50+ plotless episodes of School Rumble and over 100 episodes of plotless Urusei Yatsura and Youkai Watch, just to name a few examples. The show just needs to have a different appeal that I can get behind for me to be able to enjoy it. Being funny or thought provoking are certainly two ways to go, or just being relaxing or cute. But if there's no plot the characters automatically become even more important since they're the remaining main element, so they need to be likable, interesting or funny, or multiple of those. |

| Some people's preferences makes them feel more gravitated towards series with a lot more to it than something that is episodic and lacking an overarching plot. People like to make hyperbolic statements about almost everything, so it's natural for them to say they hate something or that it's cancer. They hardly feel that strongly against it. They're just trying to be edgy. That's all. |

| I dont know but i think plotless anime is really suitable for comedy anime lets say Gintama which is mainly episodic (not including the arc story) or GJ-bu. So, if anime are made to be serious but doesnt have a plot, then thats the problem. |

| It depends really. Both on mood and general taste. Some shows do great with no plot (or should I say, no consistency), while other shows fail at it. I get bored easily with many different things, so finding meaning, symbolism, following an overarching theme are all fun and entertaining to me. Although, I have loved some shows that did not have a plot, per say. Some were funny, some were more serious. I don't think my taste is all that consistent, so I can love or hate anything of any style (or genre). |

| I don't very often watch series that have no plot because I find most of them boring... Lucky Star is a prime example. Watched the 2 first episodes and was already bored enough to stop watching. One Punch Man however manged to keep me laughing from start to finish, so I had no problem with the series having no plot. I was entertained. If I find the series entertaining, it doesn't necessarily need a plot. I still prefer having a plot to follow though, makes the series more interesting. |

I think some people simply don't like episodic anime, they want everything to be connected and shit. Overall I enjoy "plotless" shows since I mostly watch something for the characters. Character-driven shows are in general more enjoyable to me. |

A lot of shows are fine without it, stopping at episode-level or arc-level. | I think following a plot is just easier for anime fans... The MC has a goal he must accomplish and and we're seeing his progress towards that goal. The reason we watch is because we ultimately want to see that end result. Anime with no plot means no goal and the only way we are truly entertained is if we can relate with the characters or their situation is one of escapism/interest. And ultimately this is why anime with plot is much more desirable....because a very good anime can give you an interesting story with compelling characters where we get to see how they develop how they deal with difficult situations and how they will arrive at their ultimate destination. Looking at my top 10 anime and almost all of them are heaving on plot. But I also love anime with no plot....I truly enjoyed K-ON, Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, Nichijou, etc. I love ecchi heavy anime such as TLR Darkness, High School DXD, High school of the dead, etc. *GASP* it's almost like I'm a person with a variety of tastes and I don't whine about wanting more apples, cuz oranges are also delicious! |
| About the Type A vs Type B thing.... There's no doubt in my mind Type A will win. Like I said...it's a lot easier to like story over characters. |
| Even episodic slice of life tend to have some continuity even if there isn't a specific direction or story that it's following. One of the things that separates anime from Western animation is that the episodes have an order and should be watched in said order. Even with anime like K-On! or Yuru Yuri you are supposed to watch the episodes in order. This doesn't mean that there is a plot, but I think it's an important part of anime. When there is a story it makes the anime more interesting. Magical Girl anime tend to have a story every week as well as an overarching story for the whole series, which I think is a good way of doing things. |

| Coherent plots are what people are used to which is why they close their minds , tape it in a box, chain it, lock it up, seal it with some cement, throw it into a river & expect every single thing they watch to be up to their standards of 'good'. Of course they don't wanna try new things. |

| Generally because plotless shows tend to be kind of forgettable. Even if they're entertaining while you watch them, they rarely leave much of a lasting impression. Not saying that they can't of course, but statistically speaking it's a lot more rare |

| A plot gives a context and a sense of purpose. Instead of events just happening, they have an order that's supposed to make sense. Sure, life is random but we don't view it so. We look at life as a progression of events and stories like this are easier for us. |

| Like most people have said, there's good plotless shows and then there's bad plotless shows. I've watched plenty of plotless shows that I've enjoyed and I've watched plenty of bad plotless shows that just sucked because they didn't have much else going for it (The comedy suck or something else like that so it's not interesting at all). Shows without plot tend to be quite forgettable tbh. |

| Hmm, this is my opinion: Good anime is good anime when it is good anime. It can be plot-less, ecchi-less, feels-less, humorless, character-less, bgm-less, personality-less, atmosphere-less, etc. I don't give a fuck. If it gives me that feeling in my chest that says "Damn, I'm watching something awesome", then I couldn't be happier, and I will come on MAL, and give that anime a good rating. |
