I've eaten at that place since I was a kid and took my wife to breakfasts there that she liked too. Many from the neighborhood are serious regulars that go there several times a week. Darn you to heck, 2016, you are a serious jerk!

I never thought that place would shut down. It's an iconic LA eatery.

I never thought that place would shut down. It's an iconic LA eatery.

I saw it closed last night but didn't stop to inspect because I was trying to get to La Salsa before they close at 9PM so I can get one of those Double-Stuffed Steak Burritos that I like so much. Tonight me and the wife took a drive after dinner. I told her what I saw then had her drive down Pico but I wasn't prepared for the tragedy that was about to unfold before my eyes. We got there and she pulled into the parking lot, possibly for the last time, and a sign was there in the window mentioning they were closing after 47 years of service. When I got back into the car another couple walked across the parking lot to bear witness to the horror. From behind I saw the fella hang his head but his wife took hold of his hand. If we weren't in such a hurry to get to BevMo over on Santa Monica and Veteran to get a 1.75 liter bottle of Patron for New Year's Eve I would have suggested a group hug and possibly lighting a candle.

Terrible news. One of the many places I used to hit up when I lived in Southern Cal.

Funny that you posted this. Carnegie Deli closes it's doors tonight. Not to despair. Your Norms has other locations and the article says they will be opening up more locations. Carnegie Deli also said that they will franchise and other marketing/distribution ideas. Somehow I don't see myself ordering a corned beef sammich through Amazon.

I've heard of Carnegie Deli. Good things too. Sorry for your loss. You grow up in a city, eat at a same place all your life taking for granted that it will be there forever then one day, poof, it's gone like the wind. Life is fragile. When I close my eyes I can almost taste Norm's hashed browns that were perfectly cooked on a grill that wasn't cleaned nearly often enough.
